Why is Christchurch hotter than Auckland?
I don't get it .They are in the coldsouth island and have snow in winter yet the temp everyday is like 30-35c,the city is not even tropical at all,yet it has temperatures that beat most of the tropical countries and hottest cities,tec.Has this only happend this summer?has it occured last year,etc? and auckland is like closer to the tropics yet it only has temps of 25c.

I don't think it is. Christchurch is colder than aucks. But do remember, we've got unpredictable weather over here. 35 degrees? Hahahah wth! that sucks. I know eh, i'm sick of summer. I wish it was winter all year round.

What type of clothing should I bring to Auckland, New Zealand in October?
I'm going to be visiting Auckland, NZ from October 12-22 and was hoping for some sugestions on what to wear during that time of year. (I'm coming from Miami Florida so I'm used to it being very hot) And also some suggestions on what's cool to do there.

They do say it is four seasons in one day but it is an overstatement. All four of Auckland's seasons are very similar by American standards. The lowest temperatures you can expect are highs of 56 to 59F if you get really cool weather, or 65-67F at the warmest. Overnight lows will likely be 48F at the lowest to 54F at the warmest. Auckland does have very changeable weather, but that means it can be beautifully sunny one moment then pouring rain then sunny again. The temperature is actually remarkably consistent. It is also a very humid climate. If it is sunny you will find most Aucklanders will be wearing t-shirts, shorts and flip-flops, some will even be barefoot. Coming from a hot climate though you may be very cold here. Auckland's climate is very similar to San Francisco if that helps. Be prepared for a lot of rain, but also for killer sun as the ozone hole means the sun can be as intense as Florida in the summer, even in our spring. We have been having a remarkably dry and warm winter and now spring, but that doesn't mean it will be nice when you're here. You'll want to get out to Rangitoto Island in the Harbour for sure. It is a volcano covered in cool lava fields like Hawaii. Also get out west to Piha and Karekare beaches. They're black sand and have the most incredible surf and landscape, absolutely breathtaking! They've shot movies on them. Your first stop though should be Mt. Eden, one of the 40 extinct volcanoes dotting Auckland, but with an incredible view of the city skyline. There is a nice little town centre below with coffee shops. Auckland has coffee culture like nowhere I know in the US. Try the Macchiato Mile along Ponsonby Road for the best cafes. A short ferry ride or a drive across the Harbour Bridge will take you to Devonport, a beautiful suburb with many incredible Pohutukawa Trees and views of the city and Rangitoto. There is also a great bike path running from the city out to Mission Bay, a very hip beachfront suburb.
