How
is the HOT FOOT different from the other boot heaters?
It is the
only one that automatically regulates (wattage) heat output. The
others require you to turn a dial (or the battery pack) to
change the heat setting.
How does
the HOT FOOT regulate temperature? With a thermostat?
The HOT
FOOT heater does not have a thermostat or any solid state
regulating device. The heating element is a special alloy that
increases in resistance as it heats up. This automatically
adjusts the power output of the heater as your foot (boot) gets
warmer, thus preventing the heater from getting too hot.
What is the
best way to use the HOT FOOT III heater?
When your
feet feel cold (usually when waiting in a lift line), push in
the on side of the on/off switch. You can feel the positive
action of the switch through your ski pants with your glove or
mitten on. There is no need to remove your glove or mitten or to
pull up your ski pant leg. After you exit the ski lift, your
feet should be warm. Simply reach down and push in the off side
of the switch to preserve the battery. You usually do not need
the heater on while you are skiing.
How many
minutes of usable heat will I get before I have to recharge the
batteries?
You should
get approximately 200 minutes of heating time depending on the
outside temperature. If used as described above this should be
more than enough for a full day of skiing. If you ski frequently
at below 0o F. you may want to purchase a set of our
extensions. This will allow you to take the battery off your
boot and put them on a belt or in a pocket. This will keep the
battery warmer and give you up to 10% more heat and 15-20 more
minutes of heat.
What about
the HOT FOOT III PRO heater?
This is a
4-battery heater kit for use in extremely cold conditions or for
those that want to leave the heater on constantly. All you have
to do is switch batteries at midday to get up to 400 minutes of
quality heat that you can really feel. This is 75% more heat
than any other boot heater yet our batteries are the thinnest
available so they will fit under even the tightest fitting ski
pants.
Do the
HOT FOOT batteries have a memory, making it necessary to
completely discharge the batteries each time?
No,
HOT FOOT was the first boot heater manufacturer to use
Nickel Metal Hydride no memory batteries.
How many times can the
HOT FOOT
batteries be charged/discharged?
You should
be able to recharge our batteries at least 250 times.
Do I need
to charge the batteries with the switch in the “ON”
position?
Yes
If I buy
HOT FOOT heaters for my children’s boots or for my trial
boots, will I be able to remove the elements and reinstall them
into other boots without ruining them?
Yes. Be
sure to use duct tape to attach them to the foot bed instead of
removing the adhesive release paper until you want to
permanently install them.
How long
should I charge the batteries?
The
batteries need to be charged 10-12 hours if completely drained.
Less time would be required if not completely drained.
What is the
recharge procedure?
Unplug the
heaters from the batteries. Plug the charger leads into the
battery packs. Turn the battery switch ON and plug the
charger into a 120 volt outlet. The light will usually glow dim
(unless the battery is completely discharged) and gradually get
brighter as the batteries recharge. If the light glows bright
initially, just check to be sure you have the switch in the
ON position and it will recharge.
Can the
heaters be used in applications other than ski boots?
HOT
FOOT offers custom
grooved insoles (sm., med., & lg.) for use in any shoe or boot.
The insole has a groove in the bottom for the wire. The heater
is attached to the toe area of the insole and the wire is taped
into the groove and comes out at the heel. The batteries are
usually belt or pocket mounted and our extensions are used to
connect the batteries to the heater elements. If the boot is
stiff enough, the battery can be mounted directly on the boot.
What
happens if the batteries are overcharged?
The
batteries will not be harmed if overcharged by up to 48 hours.
If left on for a week or more, the number of recharge cycles may
be reduced.
